Despite putting pressure on the guests and grasping more control of match, Vietnam was beaten 3 – 2 by Myanmar in the opening match of the Ho Chi Minh City International Football Cup yesterday as the defence line played without concentration.

With aspiration to win, the hosts launched a series of attacks right from the start of the match. The hosts’ first effort on goal came in the 4th minute, but Thanh Luong’s free kick hit the bar. Three minutes later, forward Le Cong Vinh fired a shot that Myanmar’s goalkeeper Aung Aung Oo had a good save.

The guests made a surprise attack in the 14th minute. Receiving the ball from a perfect right-wing pass, striker Tun Tun Min jumped up and headed the ball into the net.

In the second half, the hosts put further pressure and striker Vinh equalised for Vietnam from a header at the 65th minute.

Cong Vinh narrowed the gap for Vietnam two minutes later from a free kick.

Earlier, in another match, Turkmenistan beat the Repulic of Korea’s student team 3 – 1. This match was halted within 30 minutes due to a heavy rain.
